Auto Check System & Trip Computer - Tech Advice Needed

Thanks. I've done the contact cleaning thing when the display was garbled a
couple years ago. But I don't think this is that problem. It's not just
the auto-check system, the trip computer shows nothing either.
I've read about the stabilant. At $50 I suppose it might be worth a try.
But if replacing the trip computer will do the trick I may as well do that
while its out.
I see on your page you are calling the circuit board inside the hinged rear
IC white plastic as the Autocheck. Do you know that it is indeed the
autocheck system? On another site
http://www.sjmautotechnik.com/instrument.html#contact its referred to as
just the trip computer.
As I understand it, you did have a display and the trip computer was
working. you're symptom was the coolant system level warning.
Since I have no readout at all, I am afraid to replace the same piece you
replaced and have no improvement. Do you know of the relationship between
the trip computer and the autocheck system?
Thanks.
Garth

You may be able to fix the problem with some contact cleaner and
enhancer. Caig Labs has some good product, and the best stuff (IMHO) is
Stabilant 22.
I personally have had no luck with the Caig products, they did not work
for me. Stabilant 22A on the other hand, resolved my cluster problems on
the first application, and the problems have not reoccurred.
Do a search of both "Caig" and "Stabilant 22" in the archives and you
should get plenty of BTDT.
