Steering wheel removal is not needed. Here are some instructions from the
UrS4 site which will also apply to your '93 100. I recommend you lay a
small towel on top of the steering column before pulling out the instrument
cluster so that you don't scratch the plastic on the steering column.

The larger connectors will have a locking slide/tab in the center that needs
to be pulled up before you pull the whole connector out of the IC.
