Mentioned this to the local Audi Guru, and he said two words:

"Oxygen sensor"

He says if you have a mixture problem which gets worse with revs, that's it.

Discount Auto has a universal sensor (I think it fits a 5.0 Rustang) which
is a fraction of the price of the OEM part.

He also mentioned that the battery is probably low by now from all the
troubleshooting, and asked if you had checked the alternator brushes - "Ja,
alzo replaze der regulator, it komms mit der brutches in it."
