It shouldn't stop working, since it is mostly just a bunch of gears
turning each other.

I suspect the finer details may be lost when things are turning
"backwards" - who knows how synchros would react, or torsen
differentials.  They might be made to work both ways.

Anyway, although the drivetrain will function backwards, I wouldn't want
to test it by trying to put much power through it.  Torque, perhaps, but
not power.  Locking up the block and differentials and putting the car
in gear can be a handy way to break driveshaft fasteners free, for example.
