I wouldn't worry about the oil temp if it's just city driving.

Does your heater provide good heat? If so, then your problem is likely the
gauge temp sender. Easy to change and not very expensive.

If bad heat, then look at replacing the thermostat.

my 86 4000quattro doesn't seem to warm up when driving it.  The coolant
temp gauge on the dash barely rises above the hatchmark part at the
bottom and the oil temp gauge only goes up like 2 lcds.  Any ideas?

Also, how do you remove the rear view mirrors from the housings?
