well,
i replaced all the vacuum lines on my '87 5KT today to try to correct
the idle problems that ive been having.
i found one line (below the throttle body on the intake) almost
disconnected and the one between the intake and the wastegate had a spot
about an inch long that had no strength left in it.
after replacing all the lines, it fired up and acted the same way as
before.
idle poorly and stall if you dont stay on the gas. if it were to stall,
it wont start again for a couple of minutes.
so, i decided to retrace some of my previous checks. apparently a huge
mistake.
i checked the throttle position switch and that seemd good.
i checked the plugs, wires, cap and rotor (all replaced a couple of
months ago). all ok
i pulled the injectors (replaced one this summer and the seals on the
others). here comes the problem.......
#1 injector - no end sleeve (the one which holds on the small o-ring).
AWAL
i used a piece of heavy wire with a bend in the end to try to fish the
piece out of the hole, nothing was biting.
i then thaught that the piece may have been lost when the infuctor came
out of the hole, but cant find it.
then, maybe it wasnt there when i put it together last time??
wrong, i think.
after checking the spray pattern and the flow rates of the infectors, i
reinserted them and fired up the car.
it sounds like it is running on 3 cylinders and wont idle at all and
there is a clanking noise coming from the front of the engine.
im suspecting an AWAL sleeve fighting with a valve and no gas getting
by.
way to pissed right now to do much diagnosis, so i thaught i would vent
here where i cant damage anything else, and have the chance to get some
insight from the list.
it is either fix it or sell it, without tearing the top of the engine.
thanks
brian
