MKE mechanic

Before sending off the car to a mechanic, try changing the spark plug wires.
Better yet, change the rotor, cap, spark plugs and the spark plug wires.

A common failure is that one of the plugs wont fire at higher engine loads.
The engine idles ok, and runs ok at light loads. But, when you give it gas
at higher loads or in higher gear, a cylinder drops out. On the 4 cylinder
engine, you have instantly reduced your horsepower by 25%. The ignition
wires fail internally(high resistance), or the leak voltage to the outside.
BTDT(Been There Done That) several times with my 85 4k.

If your daughter is mechanically challenged, tell her to ask her boyfriend
to do the work. Its not rocket science. This is one of the simpler jobs on
an Audi.

Even if this does not fix your problem, replacing these parts is a good idea
if the parts are several years old.

More specific symptoms would be helpful also. Then again, you may be doing
this long distance over the phone with a female. Judging from the
conversations I've had with my wife that were related to car problems, I
hold out little hope that you will receive any pertinent information. . . .
. I wish you luck. :-)
