5kT strut cap removal tool (INFO WANTED)

Won't this damage the cap? Mine already looks pretty rusty and I don't want to have to get into this part of the car for a long time... BTW, I'm going to replace the struts w/ Bilsteins. Isn't this part still needed for the Bilstein's? Thanks.

The tool is for replacing the struts in the car.  If you've got it out
and apart, all you need is a big set of channel locks or a pipe wrench to
remove the cap.
