5KTQ 17"rims with 35mm offset

Right thought wrong direction. The smaller the offset, the further out the
wheels will be. So up front a 35mm offset might be better, while the
rears might be 45 (I've seen Audi 5 spoke 17x8 wheels with a 48mm offset on
eBay - don't know what they came off of).

For my 5k I decided to play it safe and bought a set of A4 5 spoke 16x7's
(45mm). For the V8 I bought 17x8's (35mm). I haven't bought rubber yet
for the V8 wheels, so I haven't tried them on the 5k, but I don't imagine
they'll fit.

Some folks have mixed the 5 spoke 16x7's (37mm) from the A8 with the A4
wheels - A8's in front, A4's in back. Makes rotating the tires a little
tougher.

I've seen a nice 5k race car that had 17's, but the owner also flared at
the rear, not sure about the front.

Some people have tried cheap solutions like flaring the fenders with a
baseball bat (with bad results) - apparently it looks like the car was rear
ended. My thought (that I never tried) was to "pre-crease" the arch so it
doesn't pop out when rolling the bat under it. If my 5k were in good
condition, I would think seriously about it, but my car has a few wrinkles
- just never got around to trying it...
