[s-cars] NAC - cable modem vs DSL question

Think about this: there will be a bottleneck somewhere, cable vs DSL just
moves that bottleneck around. For that matter, the Internet itself is a
bottleneck, given the huge user counts traversing it every day, and the
relatively low bandwidth pipes out there. OC-192 start to look pretty small
when user counts go over 100 million.
DSL gives a dedicated link to the phone company; what if they buy a puny
pipe out the other side? Cable makes you share the bandwidth with your
neighbor's kids between you and the head end; what if the head end is close
to you? I've used both, and currently use cable. It came down to economics
and provider reputation for me.
Speed is dependent on the provider, not the technology. Good provider has
appropriate infrastructure to give good speed, whether DSL or cable. Crappy
provider gives crappy speed. Check your provider's reputation for good
speed, and then compare prices for similar performance. These two data
points will allow you to make an informed decision, one that will stand you
in good stead. Absent these two data points, any recommendation will only be
based on the recommender's situation.

Hi Y'all,
Sorry for the lack of AC
Verizon has finally gotten around to making DSL available in my area. I
have been using a cable modem which has been (usually) quite satisfactory.
Does anyone have experience with both systems and have a recommendation as
to which is more satisfactory? I realize that there is a loading factor
speed penalty when many users are on-line with the cable which does not
happen with DSL. So far, that has not been a significant problem - yet.
The DSL is about $5/month less expensive than the cable modem but that is
not a large factor in the decision.
