6 K rpm rev limit? New fool pump?

Hi Y'all,

Something strange appears to have happened when I replaced the fuel pump on
my '95 S6.  Since this job I have bounced off the rev limiter several
times.  I _NEVER_ had hit it before the fuel pump swap.  I watched the tach
carefully and intentionally hit the limiter.  6K rpm.  It should be ~7200
rpm.   What have I done to my car?

Yes, I remember seeing several related posts recently but I deleted them
and was unable to find them in the archives.
