mod idea.

I am interested in doing a computer mod inside my car, and am having some
issues finding resources to research information needed for this.  I would
like to install a touchscreen in the console area of my car to handle an
mp3 player, boost gauge, boost controller, before and after air temps at
the intercooler, oil temp, oil pressure, etc.  I got some of the idea when
reading about building an mp3 player for my car running on linux with a
apache and sql backend for the database.  Has anyone done anything like
this before?  and know whom i should contact for parts for this kind of
job?  I think it would super to power this by linux, but if the software
is not available, is there software already available to do this?
