Mihnea & lister(s):

I have a general ECU question.

Both cars 3B 200 20V
Before I did a chip upgrade, the sedan drove like what I thought was decent
boost although past dash indications where 1.4 bar.

I noticed this symptom as I did some before & after "chip" implant runs.
Strangely, here are the results, which lead me to my general ECU question:

Is there a reason why boost lets up at ~4200RPM?

Before "chip" transplant, WOT runs from ~2000 RPM to ~6000 (3rd or 4th)
I noticed a "soft" spot or less boost around ~4200RPM. Car showed 1.4/5 bar.
87 Oct gas.
After "chip" transplant, WOT runs from ~2000 RPM to ~6000 (3rd or 4th)
I noticed the "soft" spot or less boost around ~4200RPM. Car showed 1.4/5
bar. 87 Oct gas.
Sedan has new BPV, O2 sensor, air& oil filter. No faults codes. ISV is
flaky.

While I suspected this to be an octane issue, the same thing happened in my
next test.

To feel what the "Chip" upgrade should feel like, I drove the same "chip"
implant in an avant.
WOT runs from ~2000 RPM to ~6000 (3rd or 4th) I noticed the "soft" spot or
less boost around ~4200RPM. Car showed 1.8/9 bar. 93 Oct gas.
Here the Avant really boogied, but I was struck by this same hesitation
which I had thought was an octane/timing retarding issue.
Avant showed no CEL. not Vag-Com'd for codes, but it showed 1.9 bar.
