5ktq detonation problems...

Everyone...

My 5ktq is detonating a bit at 10-12 psi. The car is not overboosting. It will spike to 13-14 psi quickly and settle at 12-12.5 psi...

I'm using 93 octane and a 1.8 IA chip/spring setup.

About 1 month ago I had the mixture set. I think it was set to 42%DC.

I think the mixture is fine and I cannot find any vacum leaks. The car stalls if I open the oil cap and hesitates if I remove the dipstick.

Could this be a timing issue? Belt jump some teeth maybe? Distributor slightly off? this jsut started in the last couple of days.

The car feels sluggish, yet makes full boost.

What else should I check?

I haven't checked the spark plugs yet to confirm detonation. I'll do that tommorow when I less disgusted with the car. I can however, hear the pinging/rattling of detonation at WOT...
