Rear End Clunk

I've got the same issue with my '85 CQ, and like you I have been leaning
towards the possibility of it being a diff problem as there appears to
be a lot of slack there. In my case it happens with even relatively
light accel / decel, harsh use makes it sound like I'm going to leave
half the car behind...!
Have worked through diff mounts, checked ball joints, tie-rod ends etc...
will check the rear subframe this weekend when I plan to have the rear
shocks off anyway.
Be interested to hear if you find the culprit... and I'll be sure to
post if I find anything...
