Hello everyone
I have a question as to picking correct wheel and tire combo, i know many of
you have probably been where i am now
i have a 4kq with oem tire-wheel setup, which means that i have 195/60-14 -
having a @4.5" sidewall
i'm going to do the 4x108 lug pattern to the more popular and better 5x112
which according to my mechanic the spindle from a 5ktq is swapable to the
rear of a 4kq, but not the front - needs some machine shop and welder
involvement
when i do that i need to get different rims
which brings me to the point of it all, is 3" side wall on a 17" rim too
small, for mainly worry free pothole hit, or smooth mostly bump free driving
confort
and is 205/40-17 too narrow of a tire for a 7" or 7.5" wide rim
or is 225/35-17 too wide of a fit. I checked all of these tire sizes with
tire calculator ar miata.net
so size compatability is not my question, ultimatly is a the sidewall too
small, and/or will there be any tire protection for the rim
the car has the eibach coil over and koni adjustables
and yes i have been reading all the post on the 17" rim size for the 4000q,
mainly i woudl like peoples opinions and the choices on their particular
cars
Thanks a million
Pedro
