Wow! Does this story suck or what?!?! That's harsh, man. I'm out in
South Africa and believe it or not this rubbish happens here all the
time.
I don't suppose you guys have read this one (kind of puts it into
perspective :)):

A huge earthquake has hit the capital city of Nigeria today. Close to
300,000 Nigerians are reported injured, missing or feared dead. The
international community is quite concerned about the situation and
many UN countries have offered support.
It is said that the United Kingdom has offered in excess of
GBP3,000,000-00 to assist with the crisis.
The United States has already deployed a large task force of soldiers
and equipment to help releave any stress placed on the Nigerian
forces during this time.
Other European countries, including Germany and France, have also
offered their services in dealing with the crisis.
South Africa has offered to send 300,000 replacement Nigerians.

I think our police force has a dedicated task force for dealing with
these scams here.
