The latest issue of Grassroots Motorsports has an article on a GT40 kit from Roaring Forties Australia (www.roaringforties.com.au). The turn-key model's "Getrag five-speed transmission is from an early 1980s Audi 5000 Turbo." The item states that it has been "flopped to accomodate the GT40's mid-engine configuration." It also states that the tranny uses a cable shift linkage, so that might help ID it. I've heard of other kit cars and conversions using the 5kt transmission, usually for the reasons that it is quite robust, and it is relatively cheap (at least one stated this was because the UA debacle severely devalued these cars.)
Now an AWD GT40... That would be nice.
