Injector mounting in manifold.

Why not immediately after the throttle body? It is directly in the airflow
just as if right before the TB. Is the airflow that much different before
the TB than right after? I had mounted an injector in the top of the IC
before the car was wrecked. The intercooler was cracked and although I can
do this again on another IC, the fitment was really in the way of the hood
relaease. It would be nice to mount the injector inboard a little, but
unless there is a special hose that replaces the Michelin Man, the only
alternative is where I am referring to.
What was/is the intended use of the mounting point on the manifold i'm
referring to? It looks like it was meant to be a provision for mounting a
sensor or injector.
