Sunroof woes (long)

86 4kq is the car. Back in December I replaced both of the rear guide pieces
on the sunroof (the ones that hit part of the water tray and let the roof
retract). Lubed up the roof, and all was well until the other day. The same
guide piece broke, so I got another one, and replaced it. Upon trying to open it
when it broke the 2nd time, something else didnt seem right. Looked today,
replaced the guide piece and couldnt get it to retract. Fiddled with the top
most screw (looks like it adjusts the height at the rear of the sunroof), and
got it to retract, and it went nice and quick. But when I tried to move it
forward, it would bind close to the front, and the pass side would scrape agaist
the top of the sunroof (just had car painted too), leaving some nice
scratches. Only way I could get it shut was to physically with my hands move the roof
to the left and push it with my hand while operating the switch. So, it
seems one side doesnt go down far enough, and why does it bind up on one side?
Another note, the rod/bar that goes from one side of the roof to the other, on
the pass side, when it wants to retract, the bar goes all the way back and hits
the endge of the track, whereas on the pass side, it gets close to going all
the way back, but doesnt quite make it.
Sorry if my description is lame or confusing, but its hard to describe. I do
have a bentley, but didnt find it that helpful to diagnose this thing. Would
lowering the pass side of the roof be my ticket, or what else can I try?
Thanks for any help!
Mike
