This is a common problem with not just Audis, but with most mid-size
(and above) VAG cars of the time. The rubber deteriorates over time and
the cable's movement causes it to pop out by itself, in which case it
should be replaced.
Checking the guide probably should be put as part of the 1000-mile
service plan :)
