Continuation of old thread ;)

F x D = torque, yes, exactly.  F x D holds true.  "If D changes (and F
doesn't), torque is changed, parallel axis or not."  Yes, absolutely.
Distance D changes, yes, but so must F when using a different moment arm
D.  You still need to apply an F that when multiplied by the D gives the
torque, absolutely.

I'll post a link of a Free Body Diagram and associated equations that I
used when explaining this concept in application to crankshaft
tightening ;)

Statics is the one class I was good at in engineering school so if I'm
wrong I'm going back to that university and getting my money back!  ;)
