Seems to be a type 44/V8 thing (after all, THEY were the luxo cars!).
The continous power to the radio was VAG's solution to having an
accessory position (natch) for the ignition switch.. I.e., sales
portrayed
it as "keyless" accessory. I viewed it as "cheap". Anyway, the window
sunroof theater lighting on the type 44 is timed, although I've never
timed it. Eventually, even if a door isn't opened, you won't be able to
open/close a window without at least turning the key to the "on"
position, even momentarily. I know my type 85 Q didn't have
this feature, only the 44. Verified in the owner's manuals.
