86 5ks speaker replacement

Joe,
I just did that exact job last week.
The front is just a straight swap of 5 1/4" speakers.
The front require removing the small piece of grill looking plastic next
to the window post. Pry easily up on the edge closest to the post.
After that has been removed, the rest is obvious.
The rear is abit different. The grills come off from the top, and the
speakers are held in with push-through retainers.
Pull the 4 clips, and the speaker comes up. The trouble is that the
mounting hole is larger than any replacement speakers (6 1/2"). So,
what I did was take the oem spkr, and cut out the center just large
enough to allow the insertion of the new speaker. I then mounted the
new speaker to the oem plastic mount with some clear silicone. The one
thing to be carefull of, is that the new speaker be turned correctly so
that the oem wires can be connected (speaker terminals facing toward the
opening in the bottom of the mount). The other thing that is nice about
this is that the magnets are protected like the originals.
Hope it helps
Brian
