Access to air intake plate

If you want a good look at the plate, the plug won't really give you a good view of everything, and I think it would be risky to try and pry that plug out and have it seal properly. The best bet for you would be to remove the intake hoses in the way and take off the air cleaner cover and air filter (maybe replace the filter if it's old). You'll have a clear view of the plate's underside and it inner workings from the air filter housing. Also you may want to remove the large hose/cover directly on top of the airflow plate. There's a large hose clamp that holds it down. While you're doing all this you'll have a chance to take a good look at your main intake hoses and check for cracks and leaks around the hose clamps. Vac. leaks and such are very common on these cars and hinder their performance quite a bit. Good luck.

Hi,
I wanted to visually check movement of the air intake metering
plate on my 88' 5KCSTQ but it appears to be a major operation to get to it
because of all the turbo-related plumbing in the area. I notice a yellow
plastic plug (about 15mm dia) sticking up at the top of the airway housing
that looks like removal would provide access to the top surface of the
air-plate. But the plug resists removal (attempted turning and pulling)
without mangling levels of force.
Question, is there a trick to get this plug out non-destructively?
If not will I be able to replace the plug with a suitable substitute after
forcing/drilling it out? AND most of all, will I be able to see the top
surface of the air-plate through this opening?
