First, thanks to all that responded to my earlier post. The synopsis of the
story so far is that the (highly acclaimed) local shop took the car, replaced
the starter and found that the car still would not start. Recommended Audi
service. Brought the car there and was told $85 to diagnose the problem (minimum)
when they can get to it. Two days later was told that 5 hours were spent and
still no problem found -- they think 'wiring' and could need 10 more hours to
(I guess) follow the wiring to the problem.

That was last Wednesday. I had to call them before closing on Friday figuring
at least 10 hours had elapsed -- still didn't find the problem but apparently
hadn't used up all the time in question looking. I am guessing that at Maple
Hill Audi, an out of town car is not being given very high priority. I mention
the name of the dealership because I don't think they will be getting any
kudos from me when this thing comes to a conclusion. On the other hand, not all
Audi dealers are created equal. I received absolutely outstanding service from
Champion Audi in Florida several years ago. I wish all Audi
dealerships/Service departments followed their example.

Anyway, I don't know what will happen (or when) but I have to prepare myself
for the possibility that they may not be able to find the problem, thus not
fix it and I will be forced to leave the car here and find other means of
getting home and get a new car. Boy, I never thought it would come to this. Oh, and
if that happens, I will still be out about $1200 plus the several hundred for
the rental. This has become a very expensive vacation.

Lastly, I feel somewhat cheated. I think I took excellent care of this car.
Oil changes precisely on time, all the recommended service done, also, on time
-- not too mention how many parts have been replaced. Baby seems a baby with
152K miles. I expected so much more. I am bummed.
