I got my reciever/dryer at my FLAPS for about $35 IIRC. Generally R/Ds are cheap, not really wirth trying to refurbish/rebuild.

Subject: Type85 AC converions to R134a & receiver dryer & envirosafe

Where does one procure the receiver dryers economically - can these be obtained as a generic component from FLAPS? If they are not totally crudded up and rusty, can they be "rejuvinated" at least to a degree, perhaps using solvent or heat. I need to do several of these systems and need a cheap source. Hopefully the answer to my first ? will make question #2 irrelelevant.

I concur with the recommendation to use Enviro-safe. It has worked well on a few I've done already, even taking some shortcuts, like not replacing the R/D, but plan to do this on the other systems. The Envirosafe cools comparably to R12, and in my experience better success than the R134a, cheaper too(by the case).
