Thank you Mike for the argument. Kindly reply off
line with the source. I would like to post it on the
TDi forum.
In addition to owning two Audis, I own two VW TDis and
a '91 VW IDI diesel. Used to have an '86 Golf IDI but
that and the '86 5000 CS had to go per the landlord.
Owing to the fact that I can really, truly get 45+ MPG
with the '98 Jetta on a 3200 mile road trip last
month, I think these hybrids are more trouble than
they are worth.
I had the opportunity to drive a Prius recently. The
owner was truly estatic about the car...the LCD screen
IMHO is dangerous as too many out there will be
watching the anamation and not the road. The
performance was not inspiring, to say the least.
It is my understanding that Toyota sells diesel cars
in the EU (and not the Prius)-they simply build what
they think the market will buy.
Diesels have gotten a bum rap thanks to GM. No help
from the EPA or CARB either.
AOA/VOA could help. Instead of putting a V-10 TDi in
an SUV that many of us would not buy, or can't afford,
how about a nice 5 or 6 cylinder TDi motor in the A4
and A6...and how about that wonderful V8 TDi that is
featured in the EU version of the A8-which has the EU
motoring press ga-ga?
Like it or not, with crude oil hovering in the $44~45
range right now, fuel ecomomy may take a more
prominent role in the buyer's mind...
