I think the issue is that the car in question is being raced.

My 90Q NG is pretty zippy, torquey, and revs freely to red line.  But in 
a 0-60, flat out push (I turn blind onto a highway right outside my 
house so I do this all the time), it's not exactly neck-snapping.  It 
can seem downright lethargic at times (like when a semi comes around the 
corner and would prefer not to slow down).

Wind it out in first, and it's really pulling.  Trouble is, I still have 
to shift into a lower power rpm and keep going - I think 3rd is required 
to get to 55-60, and by then the seasons have changed...
