I'm not sure how much shipping would be and since it is a gas tank there may be a problem with shipping it even though I emtied it when I pulled it. Empty tanks have the best mixture to be a bomb. See if you can source one closer and in the mean time, I'll check into how much to ship it.

I beleive the FWD job would be easier. It may also use a different tank, so need to double check that as well. Anyone know?

If the leak is not too bad, and you can access it, you may be able to clean thoroughly and repair with Marine Tex or other similar like JB Weld or ??? I have done this before on a few. If you make the leak spot completely rust free and do while the tank is empty, you may have a successful repair. Once hardened, Marine Tex will not deteriorate due to gasoline and will make a good seal when done correctly.

I have one in perect cond. from '87 avant.

You need to drop transaxle to extract - not trivial.

  Hi all,

I have been lurking on digest mode and now have a question concerning my
'85 wagon. The gas tank is leaking, I need to remove it and I have two
options available to me, either replace or repair. I have been looking
around here, southern Ontario from a replacement and even went as far as
trying to get one from the southern U.S. No luck, I can find plenty of
5000s gas tanks, it seems that wagon tanks are "rare". :-)

Does anyone know of one that is available, "locally" to southern
Ontario? How hard is it to remove the old one? Are there any special
  tricks I need to know?

  Thanks in advance
  David Templeton
