tune up parts interval?

I have a '87 5kcstq w/jillion miles.  About 2 years/20K mi. ago I replaced 
the plugs, wires, cap undt rotor. Is there an interval for changing that 
stuff?  Or just replace when they ain't working?  (Car's running ok, btw.)
