to have the clutch slave cylinder replaced (sagging/sticking clutch pedal
even after replacing master). He just called me, he cannot get the dying
slave out of the tranie. He was able to get the hose off and knock the
spring/barrell pin out, but he cannot get the slave out. Is there a trick to
it? Something he may be missing? He's now suggesting that I take it to the
DEALER and have them drop the tranie then remove it.

I spent some time persuading mine out. Having removed the wierd spring
clip and then drifted out the roll pin I used liberal doses of penetrant
over a period of days. Also some lemon juice went on as a corrosion disolver
(no idea how much it contributed). Hammering with a normal hammer and a 6
inch drift did nothing to shift it. Eventually I selected a two and a half
foot chisel tip crowbar and located that on the slave cyl. on the boss where
the hydraulic hose connection is. (hose already removed). The other end was
then conveniently above the bonnet (hood?) slam panel. Then I selected a 7lb
hammer and whacked the end of it. This did the trick in getting that first
movement and from there I was able to twist, spray lube and revert to small
hammer to finally get it out. Two people would be best for the heavy work,
(you'd have to decide who wants to hammer and who wants to hold the bar in
place!) but I just about managed it on my own
In the end I believe it was the effect of some real mass in the hammer head
that did it. I could have tapped away for years with the small hammer and
never started it moving.
Obviously at all times I did by best to ensure that I was apply impact in
the line of movement required, - listers have managed to crack the mounting
lug on the gbox before no, so be careful.. Needless to say I refitted with a
new slave cylinder, as this treatment didn't do much for the appearance of
the old one.
I also did the master cyl at the same time, they both tend to let go around
the same time.
cheers,
Rob.
