Engine driven vac pump (87 4kq)

Whats the group concensus on removing this item? The car will see
track day, rally cross and eventual stage rally use. I have heard some
say the brakes aren't as strong, while other sites say no prob's
reported. Anyone BTDT and have feed back? Mine is clacking like mad
(when cold)  and i'd love to pull it, but dont want to shoot myself in
the foot in doing so. Are there rebuild kits available for it?
