  yes its what i ll do, pump the 1/4 tank left with my jetta pump. I use it to pump tank when needed.

    When I replaced the fuel pump in 89 200TQ,  I removed the gas cap first.
    You would be surprised how much less you smell gas while removing the pump.

    Siphon or pump out the fuel tank so your arm doesn't have to go swimming.
    Then the only issue is breathing the fumes.
