I'm with you.  The SBC is not the end-all be-all of powerplants.  But if you want to destroy the character of the car and swap one in, go for it.  I have a background 
with rotary-engined cars, though, and we're pretty fanatical about keeping the "soul" of the car intact.  Wanna get *reamed* for suggesting an engine swap?  Get 
on the RX-7 boards and suggest dropping in a SBC.  In any case, the thought of a 928 with the truck-like blatt of a 383 under the hood just makes me queasy.  
Ugh.
