fuel system performance

I agree with "SJ" that the entire fuel system needs to
be gone over.

I gave away an '86 5kT early this year with a bum
tranny/diff. While sitting for 3.5 years, the fuel
pump quit. Engine was dead, but would start with a
puff of ether. New fuel pump got the engine running,
but it was unusable as it ran too rough.

New owner used shotgun approach of cleaning tank and
putting full tank of good gas in it. I figure that
crud built up in it. Maybe air was mixing with the
fuel at the wrong place. Carbonated gasoline won't
run too well in the car.

I also experienced similar problems with a V6 100 that
had sat for 1.5 years. The injectors were fairly new
(due to a recall), but they were installed poorly by
the stealer. I took everything apart, cleaned the
seats, and installed Le Injectors with a bit of
Pentosin as the lube.

Your low vacuum points to a LEAK...how are your little
rubber hoses? My V6 destroyed a bunch of those, so I
just changed them all, including the 1/2 i.d. ones for
the brake booster in this car.

Lesson here is to clean everything up. Little things
mean a lot.

WPM-anally running spell check to please persnickity,
ill tempered list admins from New England.
