And don't forget that "free" mod: increase your tire pressure to 36-41 psi
like what Ovlov specify.

On my urQuattro, jumping from 26 psi to 35 psi is worth at least 2 mpg.

My '92 100CS fwd 5-spd would reguarly return 20 - 22 mpg. Let's face it,
172hp
and ~200 lb/ft of torque simply isn't a lot to motivate a heavy car. The
end
result is, you use the throttle more than you'd like just to get going.

I agree that 15 mpg seems a bit severe, but you also have to keep in mind
that
you're driving the absolute pig of the C4 family.

If your intent is to increase your fuel economy (and who doesn't want that
at
$2+ per gallon), then you have some options:

replace oxygen sensors (you should only have 2)
make sure your air filter is clean
make sure that your exhaust flow is correct, i.e., no blocked cats.
clean or replace the MAF
make sure your coolant temp sensor is working correctly.
