  Thanks for all the replies. One nugget that I didn't think about was that I replaced the cv axel boots about 3-4 months ago and wondering if I messed up the locking mechanism during this. Though the problem has just cropped up in the last month or so. I will try putting the car in neutral and seeing if it will release the switch. The car turns off it just doesn't give the key back. What kind of grease or lube should I put in the switch, Si spray? I do think I hear the transmissing lock when I press in the brake before I pull the car out of park. I will keep a better eye and ear on it when it happens.
