Hey, if it's just the spring and a cleaning, the part is only $30. Not
necessarily the whole ignition. Way less than four hours install too.

Subject: 97A6Q key cost and remote
Hello all,
I have just discovered that if I turn the car off really fast it releases
the key if I do is normally it keeps the key. Would this be symptomatic of a
bad key mechanism. I called the dealership and they want $450 to replace it,
keying the tumblers to the same key. Interestingly enough my local shop
wants $600. The part is about $150 at the dealership and 4hrs for
installation. Has anybody replaced one and adjusted the tumblers to the same
key as the original? What hassels can I expect if I do the job myself?
As a side note/question I have an new remote that I got under warrenty from
the dealership years ago and need to program it. Does anybody have
instructions on how to do it?
Thanks
Frank
