Straight from the mouths of two Audi training center employees:

"Don't run anything in the 1.8t except synthetic"

By the way, Castrol is NOT synthetic; their oil isn't made from PAO 
stocks, it's made from crude oil.  Mobil challenged them over it with 
some sort of advertising standards body or in court (I forget which) 
and lost, unfortunately.
