Heater fan problems

Zsolt, SJ;

There is no need to disconnect anything related to the
console in replacing the blower motor. If you need the
step-by-step, search the archives under "steak knife".

BTW, since getting to the blower is such a pain, and it
actually exposes the heater core, it would be advisable
to replace the heater core at the same time as doing the
blower motor. You really wouldn't want to go back in twice
when the the plastic end tanks of the core finally fail.

Finally, you can get the motor to work semi-reliably on
a temporary basis by pulling up the right angle hose to
the blower (located on the driver's side) and sticking in
something like a pencil eraser to press the brush carrier
(it's sheet brass or bronze or something) further against
the commutator. You can reach ONE of the two brushes
this way. I made it from late fall to the summer this way,
so that I could do the job in much more hospitable weather.
