Sounds like since you have the books and the test parts: 18- 22 ohms it is.
I could have had the meter range x or / 10.   So if the part holds a steady 
value it should be good.  Look forward to the answer and thanks for all the 
input.  I used to call the damn thing a potentiometer until Swanson or someone 
corrected me :-)
