This happened quite a few times with my car after I bought it, till I 
drained the coolant (was plain water, d'oh!) and flushed the cooling 
system well. Probably some gunk or rust, which came out plenty by the 
way, causing a local hot spot or maybe something less serious. 
Disappeared that instant, and has never appeared since.
