In-Tank Fuel Pump Replacement

Marc, I've BTDT several times on fuel pump replacement.
1X on the 86 5ktq out in the middle of nowhere when the pump died.
1X on the 84 parts 5kt to try and get it running - turns out it had
other issues too
1X swapping the new pump from the 86 5ktq to the 88 5ktqa when I bought
the newer car.

The pump is held into the bottom of the tank by 3 tabs. When you reach
in there, you can easily feel them and get the pump out. Actually, you
can just grab the pump and pull firmly and it will come out of the tabs.
I recommend that you visit a vet hospital and buy yourself some plastic
gloves that come all the way up to your shoulder. Makes the job a lot
less messy and easier clean up.

When the pump in my 86 5ktq died, I got a replacement Pierburg pump.
Very quiet and so far reliable. Cheapest one too.

HTH

Stephane
