I think this is fairly common across the various manufacturers of vehicles, 
after all, why make a new crank when you can grind a slightly bad one to 
the next undersize and have it work fine.

Most of the American car manufacturers have standard markings for the 
various undersizings so a machine shop can quickly figure out what the 
manufacturer did; for instance, I know a Iron Cross on the main bearing 
journal of a Mopar V8 means the bearings are .001" undersize.
