Batteries (alternators) -> battery desulfators

Hi All,
How does a desulfator work? Fundamentally it applies a relatively high
voltage, AC signal to the battery that is supposed to reverse the sulphating
process -- no flames, this is an oversimplification from long term memory.
I do not know if they work or not. However, you can research them on the
internet and find out more than you'd ever want to know about them. BTW,
they are designed to keep a battery trickle charged as well as desulfated,
which might be handy to keep an extra battery.
I know of 2 sources; one, from the internet, a commercial company sells
them for about the cost of a battery; two, I downloaded complete plans to
build your own. I don't recommend building your own unless you are
experienced with building complex assemblies including circuit board and
components and have the necessary test equipment to verify that it's built
correctly. I used to have the plans and description, and, if someone wants
them, they can email me offline and I'll email them as an attachment(if I
can find them).
Cheers!
