I'm a newbie to Audi and the list and I've already gotten a ton of info here. Thanks!
OK...So I decided to try and fix my odometer on my recently acquired 4kq (already did a ton of mechanical stuff, now down to the details). I researched everything I could find on Audi sites and the net. I got the cluster apart OK. Looking at the odometer I saw that it still had the O2 sensor gears still hooked up. So after breaking the speedo needle (super glue to the rescue!), and taking the face of the speedo off, I got rid of the white gear on the very top as well as the black gear and reset levers that controlled the light itself. I then decided to reset the odo to 000000 since it was broken anyway. That went smoothly (need patience though) and everything went back together well. I got the yellowish gear meshed properly with the white worm gear, all the numbers, including the trip, turned without problem. So I reassembled everything.
(TIP: There is a white tick mark on the edge of the speedo face below the A in UNLEADED. Line the needle up with that when reinstalling. I've yet to confirm with another vehicle, but RPMs seem to match the speed as they did before the surgery).
I also cleaned all the connection points, the copper (?) nuts and washers to get rid of all the corrosion.
So after reinstallation in the car, the speedo works, but the odo still does not work. The coolant temp gauge (which worked fine before) has stopped working. The fuel gauge is reading approx. 1/3 tank low (the adjustment lever method in the Bentley didn't seem work). Before that the fuel gauge was emptying too quickly (car only required 10 gal. when the needle was in the red zone).
Also, the computer is not working properly (speed is way off), and when the headlights are turned on, it dims too much.
OK...I know that was a long post, but I wanted to make sure I explained everything. Hopefully someone here can help me out. I'm decent with the mechanical stuff, still learning on the electrical. Thanks a ton!
