Are you saying you don't have any gauges either or is it just the lights
that illuminate the gauges? I had lost my gauges but not the lights some
time ago and I believe they are on a separate circuit so I don't think that
transistor would be your problem. I would start by checking the fuses. Mine
was blown and kept blowing until I shook, disconnected, cleaned and
reconnected all the wires under the dash as well as around the alternator/
battery. My guess would be that you shorted out either the light for the
shifter or the ashtray.
