Stephane:
Does your 86 have an ABS switch to turn the unit off? and assuming its the
sensors fubarred..............
If it does.................I'd suggest using salvaged sensors which should be
cheap.
Here's why: Use as a track car: even though you can threshold brake better
(meaning shorter stopping distance) than with ABS (engaged) doing the braking
on the track, if you trail brake, the benefit of having the ABS engaged could
be that your precious track tire doesn't slide...................along locked
up at turn in where the suspension is loaded to the point where the weight
transfer lifts one tire. VW / Audis and BMW's lift either the front or rear
during aggressive cornering.
My theory along these lines is that you should be able to modulate your
(foot) peddle pressure with the feedback from the ABS. IF you can use the brakes
up to threshold (NOT kicking in the ABS) then unweight a tire the ABS feedback
should be slight enough not to affect your driving.
Sometimes, I find the feedback useful to sense track surface conditions
before I get into trouble. (I.E.,) slide on a slick corner, area etc.....)
Either way if there is a disable switch on the dash, you can ALWAYS shut the
system down or pull a fuse (AFAIK)
Just food for thought. That 86 shell is already the lightest (generally) of
all the newer type 44 chasis..........
