I've discovered that the 3B ECU has two 'levels' of many of its fault
codes. A printout I got from a VAG-155x(the real thing) showed some
interesting tidbits- a few fault codes had "intermittent" printed
next to them. I believe it'll even report both separately.

Intermittent codes will -NOT- be flashed by the check engine light
blink system...and to make matters worse, the 3B -also- doesn't store
some codes on shutdown unless it really thinks it ought to.

So, the general rule seems to be regardless of the vehicle in
question- pull the codes after a lengthy run, with the engine still
going, using a proper scan tool. It's clear the jumper business is
really only for when something's seriously wrong.
